The Juncker Commission has rightfully recognised the potential of the digital technologies and made it a top priority for its mandate. Aiming at bolstering the digital economy, the European Commission has already announced a flurry of legislative proposals and policy initiatives. They include legislative proposals for electronic communications, copyright, online content, geo-blocking, as well as policy initiatives in innovative areas such as big data, the Internet of Things or Cloud Computing.

Europe’s transport is fundamental for the smooth functioning of the single market and the entire economy.
In its White Paper 2011, the European Commission defined a long-term strategy to create the single European Transport Area by 2050, laying out ten goals for a competitive, resource-efficient transport system.

The new Juncker Commission initiated a mid-term review of the White Paper and already announced several initiatives for upcoming years which will continue to shape the technical environment for all transport modes and their respective infrastructure, taking account of major policy trends in domains such as climate change, digitalisation or Industry 4.0.


Energy is fundamental for the well functioning of Europe’s economy. It underpins every other Commission initiative, but especially the push for jobs and growth. Without a secure and affordable supply, Europe’s competitiveness will not improve. Equally important though is the sustainability of the energy system as a whole. The Juncker Commission has made the completion of the aptly named Energy Union one of its key priorities whilst ensuring that a forward-looking climate change policy runs through its core.

In parallel, the Commission is also working on a paradigm shift – the Circular Economy. Europe’s environmental regulations, alongside its major economic policies, will be changing to close the resource loop. The first to be tackled are the waste directives. Then later all product design will be influenced to embed sustainability from the ground up. This philosophy will change most existing legislation and be a foundational element of every new initiative.

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) can play a crucial role in delivering economic growth, jobs and social interaction. Due to their fast evolving nature, ICTs often pose a challenge for regulators and policy makers as they need to find the balance between fostering investment, competition and ensuring regulatory compliance.

In recent years, Brussels has been home to major regulatory developments affecting the ICT sector. The 2015 Digital Single Market Strategy of the European Commission aims to improve and modernise Europe’s barriers to online business, in many areas such as copyright, e-commerce, media/content, or parcel delivery.

Challenge: Our client needed to change the perception of the online gambling industry in order to positively influence EU and national legislation.

Our Solution: LOGOS Public Affairs built strong messages supported by facts and figures to enhance credibility of the sector. LOGOS used these messages with the media (Press Releases) and EU political stakeholders (Position Papers). A reputation of the sector was built by teaming-up with other associations and industries (advertising, sport, etc).

Our Results: LOGOS succeeded in positioning the sector as a responsible and trusted industry vis-à-vis the regulators and the media. This has allowed for a move from emotional to fact-based discussions on online gambling. LOGOS managed to position the sector as a key driver of the European e-commerce agenda.
